This supposedly is the track listing to the unreleased first version of "Old Ways". This information has not been officially released by Neil, so there is absolutely NO guarantee that this information is correct.

This album was one of the reasons that Geffen sued Neil in December of 1983. Some of this material later appeared on the released version of Old Ways, as well as Everybody's Rockin'.

"Old Ways" is much faster and very different sounding here. "Depression Blues" made it onto Lucky Thirteen. "Depression Blues" and "Silver and Gold" were both recorded for the Harvest Moon album. "That's Alright Mama" was played a lot on the Solo Trans tour.

In an interview with Pulse Magazine in December 1991, Neil said of Old Ways 1:
"It was a reactionary period," says Young of his six-year tug-of-war with Geffen. "I just do what I feel like doing. I made the first Old Ways album--it was kind of a country album, the Old Ways that came out--this was another Old Ways album that I made with different songs. It was recorded right after Trans. I really loved it; I thought it was like Harvest, Comes a Time, Old Ways--the three were like trilogy, they went together great. I was knocked out. "I took it in [to Geffen] and they didn't want it. They didn't like it. They told me I should play some rock'n'roll. So I did Everybody's Rockin' [laughs].
